Does it really get you thinking? As with many of these social-networking sites becoming increasingly popular with teenagers, many fail to realise the dangers or possible rights they are giving up by posting many personal details about themselves.

ust about anyone can read what’s posted onto social networking websites like MySpace andFaceBook. ‘Anyone’ includes the intended audience of friends, but potentially relatives, teachers and employers too. And much of what is posted can never be deleted. 

People have been posting stuff onto the web for years, though, so why is privacy suddenly a bigger problem for a larger number of people? Three or four years ago, it was all about chat rooms and forums. Both have a level of anonymity by default; you can choose your handle and only talk about what you want to, truth or lies… nobody will know.

Chat rooms are all but dead and buried now, amidst fear of sexual predators and other unsavoury types. However, forums continue, by virtue of their more topic-focused and moderated nature.

People treat users on their social-networking ‘friends lists’ just like their normal friends. They’ll chat to them, share details from their lives, show them photos… do stuff friends do. People are comfortable with that. Problem is, they’re too comfortable.

Bitching down the phone to someone about somebody else is a fairly common occurrence amongst friends, so socially, it’s quite acceptable to do the very same with online friends, right? Yes, except unlike a phone call, it isn’t private. Interestingly, you could probably get away with it in a chat room; they were essentially anonymous, but social networking is much more personal; the anonymity is all but gone. Fancy being sued for libel? How about initiating a police inquiry, or an investigation by the board of your educational establishment? It could happen, if you say or post the wrong things.

There’s more to worry about on the web than predators and viruses. We’re givingeveryone access to our personal lives.  Once something appears on the Internet, it’s almost impossible to remove. Within minutes, chances are a search engine will crawl it, then that search engine will cache it, so that even if the page changes, the original content will still be there, for a while, at least. Then there are archiving systems like the Way Back Machine. Once the page is on there, it doesn’t matter what changes are made… it’s archived. Of course, this assumes that pages are accessible by anyone, which isn’t always the case, but that doesn’t really matter.

It’s easy to get an account with almost any social-networking site, and we’ve learned from chat rooms, it’s easy to pose as somebody else. It’s easy, then, to get added to a friend list (especially with the ‘more friends the better’ attitude of current social-networking sites). Suddenly, that ‘friends only’ stuff is pretty much public.

Showing off your drinking triumphs to your friends? What if prospective employers are watching?

Social networking users need to take a step back and think about just what they’re posting onto the Internet. It’ll probably be too late for a number of people, and it’ll take a lot more ‘victims’ of the lack of privacy before most users actually start heeding these warnings. Just beware that anything posted online to your friends now, could very easily come back to haunt you in days, months, or even years to come.

as i told you already that i was planning for a biig party and it was great!! we had a beach side party. arrived there at 5, which was a bit late but the weather favored us, so we played football, but none of the teams could make a goal, so we had penalty shots and my team own. Hehe….:D

Then after 20mins on football everyone was tired and hungry and jumped into the sea, but some wanted to stay dry…. guess what we did to them? they were the first to be thrown into water one by one…

….that was sooo much fun! then as the sun was goin down, we came out of water and got fresh, changed our clothes. 

by 7 it was dinner time and everyone was starving. the food was a big surprise for most of them because it was a homemade traditional Bangladeshi food…..Yum yum!! we simply enjoyed the food and then stated the last episode of the party…..Music!

 it was a great ending and we drove back home at 9:30 pm. it was a memorable day, probably my last b’day in Malaysia with all my Friends here!

wish me Happy happy B’day……………its my big day today…………and guess what? i had such an unexpected party. it was greattttt…………..all my friends came over with a lovely cake and we hung around, singing ,dancing till midnight. it was sooo nice and unexpected. now its my turn to throw a party, so i’m really planning a BIG one this coming sunday 14th december. we are planning to crash in the nearest beach Gold coast, 1 hr drive from Cyber. there we will have some beach games, volleyball, lovely Bangladeshi food and music for all the 32 friends that i have invited.

i’m not soo good. Aidul Adha has just passed away, and i spent all of it yawning at home. nothing to do, no good movies in the theater even. sigh! moreoever i’m very worried, confused and in dilemma regarding my current accomodation in Cyberia. thats why i need your suggestion. Helppppp!

I’m staying in this house for more than 1 year and my contract is just about to finish, when the house is sold to another person. Meanwhile during my stay i never received an electricity bill, but i always had the connection. this has been goin like this for more than a year and i have repeatedly informed my previous house owner, but he seemed to ignore the problem. so i kept quiet and enjoyed the free electricity

Now the problem is, since the new owner is taking over the house, he wants to report this to the electricity providers and asking me to pay all the pending electricity bills. only then he can connect a new electricity line under his name and stay safe.

My question is, i have always informed my previous owner, who was reluctant about the fact. now is it legal that i should pay the bill for last one year? i dunno…..i’m so confused….can u suggest anything?

Hope you all are doin fine. just in case if you r wondering why so much legal talking in my personal blog….well to be honest i have a Law course this semester and i’m doin some reading on the related subject. Anything that seems interesting, i like to share with you guys. so here are some more interesting laws and custome that i came across recently:

1. Witchcraft was not legalised in Great Britain until 1951. The last person in Great Britain to be convicted under the Witchcraft Act was Jane Rebecca Yorke, who was convicted in September 1944. She received a lenient sentence and a fine. 

2. In Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, it is illegal to eat ice cream on Bank Street on a Sunday.

3. A Canadian law still states that the government will pay a bounty on all Indian scalps brought in.

4. In Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A., it is illegal to catch mice without a hunting licence.

5. In 1666, a law was passed in England requiring all corpses to be buried in a wool shroud, thereby extorting support for Britain’s flagging wool industry, especially since the Black Death was devastating England at the time. The act was finally repealed 148 years later, in 1814.

6. In the city of Milwaukee, residents must keep pet elephants on a leash while walking them.

7. In the U.S. state of Oklahoma, an inland state, it is illegal to catch whales or to get a fish drunk. 

8. In York, England, it is still legal to kill a Scotsman if he is carrying a bow and arrow and is within the city walls after dark, except on Sundays. 

9. In the United Kingdom, it is an act of treason to place a postage stamp bearing the reigning monarch’s image upside-down. 

10. It is illegal to die in the United Kingdom’s Houses of Parliament, and it is also illegal to enter them wearing a suit of armour. 

11. It is illegal to drive while blindfolded in the U.S. state of Alabama. 

12. In Milan, it is against the law not to smile, except during a funeral or hospital visit.

Not all are great movies, i must admit but some are surely worth watching for example last night i watched Madagascar- Escape to Africa. It’s a sequel of the Madagascar release in 2005. 

This sequel- Escape is so gorgeous, in fact, that it took me a while to realize that the heart and the soul of the first Madagascar, the aspect that made it so special, is missing here… no, not missing, but inverted to a degree that it almost negates the first film. Which is a genuine shame. As a pleasantly rowdy cartoon that diverts and amuses, one that will appeal to a wide audience without having to dumb itself down to do so — which is, it must be noted, a grand achievement on its own – Escape is a splendid success.

In one word, I simply loved it and would reffer anyone who likes animation to watch it, but watcing this film in the IMAX would be a fantastic experience i bet. But dear friends for you information the only IMAX i know in Times square is out of order(not displaying 3D shows) and is only screening 2D movies currently. What a dissapointment…..i know
